Mikoto Sato stood on the wall surrounding Inner Saitama, the wind blowing his hair back. About a hundred yards out, he noticed a small flash on the horizon. As brief as a comet, so fast you wondered if you just imagined it. But he knew it was real. It was the sight of a burning demon, checking for weaknesses in the holy barrier surrounding the settlement, only to get swallowed up by the power specifically designed to do so. It was that barrier that kept the people safe for years. And it was that power that he, and he alone, knew was failing. ... okay, maybe it wasn't just him, but not a lot of people knew. Even he himself really shouldn't have known, but being in the right place at the right time is helpful sometimes. He wasn't aware of the specifics, but the people he heard it from were quite in the know, and there was nobody he'd trusted more to have that knowledge. Of course they were keeping it a secret from the people. They didn't need another uprising like had happened when the demons had first come. But that didn't change the fact that something needed to be done, and bureaucracy wasn't going to be fast enough to do anything. And so, as always seemed to happen, the fate of the universe fell on the shoulders of a semi-attractive teenager. The way things should be.

Sadako sits at the edge of the barrier, her hands clasped together in prayer. Maybe if she prayed hard enough, her god would hear her. Or maybe not. After the demons had taken over, she questioned whether her god could hear her. Of course, she pushed the thought back, knowing that she, and the rest of the village, couldn’t have been abandoned by The Holy Father. Sadako sighs and opens her eyes, standing and beginning to walk away, when suddenly, a demonic being runs into the barrier, only to be disintegrated by the holy barrier.

Also in Inner Saitama a girl named Asumi was finishing up a health checkup in a tall and dusty apartment complex. When she was done she exited the building and started walking down the street. It was time for her lunch break. She had prepared some sandwiches that were waiting for her in her shoulder bag. The sandwiches were nothing special though. In these troubled times it was hard to get one's hands on rare food items so all that was between Asumi's bread pieces was a cheap vegetable pate and a little bit of butter. It wasn't anything fancy but it would satisfy her hunger and that was all that really mattered. As long as she didn't starve and as long as the holy barrier kept doing its job she didn't have anything to worry about. As she kept walking down the street to her usual eating spot she walked by the wall surrounding this part of the city and she saw a boy around her age standing on top of it. She had never seen anyone on top of the wall before so she stopped and looked up at his silhouette for a while before she spoke.
"Excuse me sir," she started with a straight voice, managing to hide how odd she thought it sounded when she called him sir. "What are you doing up there? It's not safe. If you fall you could get injured pretty badly."

Mikoto glanced down at the worried-looking girl sheepishly. He hadn't intended to be noticed in his posing, and was a little embarassed. "Don't worry," he told her, "I come up here all the time. It's a great view of the barrier. You should try it some time!"

Sadako shuffles towards the cafe, pausing for a moment to glance back at the barrier, and catches a young man and woman near the wall. As she turns back towards the cafe, she notices a small gathering of maybe five or six people hovering over a small child. Sadako, of course, picks up her pace to check out the scrne. As she gets closer, she sees a little girl, no more that 9 years old, begging for money. Sadako sighs and pulls $20 from her cleavage and hands it to the child, although she seemed a bit reluctant, seeing as the bill had just been dislodged from between Sadako’s breasts. She smiles and blesses the child, leaving with a bow and making her way back to the cafe, a wide grin glued to her face.

Kamoze headed down the mountain for supplies, entering the gates of the refuge. The guards doing their regular checks. And kamoze always was the one they inspected. He entered the town and entered the bar. Ready for a stiff drink among other stiff things

Asumi looked at the boy in silence for a while before letting her gaze look to the sides, seeing if there's a way to get up on the wall nearby. Luckily she saw a tower in the wall with a staircase leading up there so she went on over there and joined the young man. He was right. The view of the barrier really was great from up here. She sat down on the wall next to where the boy was standing and took a sandwich out of her bag. Her legs were dangling off the wall as she started chewing and enjoying the landscape. "It's much nicer than I thought," she told the boy.

"It is," Mikoto responded, "A good place for thinking. And in this day and age, I think we all have a lot of that to do. The demons without seem to bring out the demons within, don't you think?" he stared wistfully at the distant skyline, "What does it make you think about, if you don't mind my asking?"

"It makes me wonder what the world outside the barrier is like," Asumi replied after a little while of thinking. "Even more dreadful and tragic than even this lot of land, I'm sure. But it also makes me wonder what the world was like before these barriers became a necessity... I know there are those who remember the days, but it's hard to grasp. I'd like to experience it for myself one day, if fate allows it." She then reaches into her bag and takes out another sandwich that she holds out to Mikoto. "Would you like one? I always seem to make too many."

Sadako catches a glimpse of a man she’d not seen before entering the bar. For some strange reason, she felt drawn to him, unknowing of the inevitable romance that would insue between the two later on. She follows sheepishly, her head tilted downwards to stare at her feet. She takes a seat at the table farthest from the mystery man and sighs watching him drink alone. She fixes her shirt so that she can achieve maximum cleavage visibility and gets up, taking a seat next to the man and calling for a shot of vodka. She’d never drank before, but she wanted to catch the attention of the man and maybe even impress him. She raises the shot glass to her lips and cringes at the strong smell. Quickly, she throws the liquid into the back of her throat, though it takes quite a while for her to swallow it, but finally she does.

And like that, it felt as Time stood still. a bombshell walks up to him at the bar, and downs a shot of Vodka. kamoze feels his blood heat up. he looks at the beauty and his heart falls from it's coldness to one of warmth. "First time seeing you here, Little Sister. might I suggest working your way up to the Hard stuff, or at least Something sweet. Gabe! 2 more meads"
The Bartender lays down 2 meads in front of Kamoze

Sadako giggles and winks at the Kamoze. “Why, thank you!” She grabs one of the bottles of mead and sips it. It definitely tastes better than the prior. “So.. um.. what’s a guy like you doing here?” She gulps and internally sighs, knowing that the question was a stupid one. Her face reddens and she awkwardly laughs, drinking the rest of the mead quickly.

Mikoto accepted the sandwich. He had been so wrapped up in thought that he hadn't bothered to eat much, and he only just now realized he was starving. He took a bite and stared outside, "I don't know... but it had to have been better than this."
